The Elite women started 100km race with the Veteran men, with full road closure on the out-and-back route making for a significantly safer route. The riders were faced with a steep 3km climb just 7km into the race, which saw a group of 14 move clear of the main pack. At 10.8km Schoeman and Lindi Erasmus (Toyota Cycle Lab) were the only ladies left with the breakaway group. Then at 20km into the race Schoeman made her move with four Veteran men up a 2km long drag. The bunch reacted when Kevin Dorfling (Toyota Cycle Lab), Wayne Pheiffer and Rodger Pheiffer (Wayne Pheiffer Cycles) setting up a chase. Two kilometers later two Veterans in the break succumbed to the pressure while Schoeman and Tud Brummer (Wiehann Cobiax) increased the time gap on the chasing bunch to 45 sec. A group effort brought the bunch back to only 10 seconds 32km into the race. Fortunately for Schoeman and Brummer, a long drag at this point allowed them to increase the time gap on the chasing bunch ounce more. Schoeman manage to take the QoM prime 33.8km into the race with the time gap back to 45 seconds. Schoeman and Brummer found began to lose time to the chasing pack as the roads flattened. A herd of cattle in the road 52km into the race also caused them to slow. With 34km to go Schoeman and Brummer were caught by the bunch and the scene was set for a sprint to the finish along the esplanade. Lindi Erasmus took the lead with 300m to go but was passed by the experienced Schoeman in the dash for the finish line.
